Why Breed or Raise Miniature Horses?
FUN! - There is so much to do with the mini: Drive, jump, play, parades, nursing home visits, school visits etc. Truly the ambassador of good will for the horse industry.
Low cost of keeping - A bale of hay lasts a mini a month. It costs less than one tenth the cost of maintaining a larger breed of horse.
Space required - Stalls & pastures require much less room.
Housing – A three-sided, run-in shed for protection from cold winds and wet weather is usually sufficient shelter. Minis are very hardy animals and thrive on pasture, sunshine and room to run and play.
Ease of handling - Young and old can easily handle these small equines. Also, people with physical or mental handicaps find these small horses easy to work with and quite a joy in their lives.
By teaching a child the proper care of a miniature it encourages discipline, responsibility and respect. It also builds confidence and self-esteem…qualities that carry over into adult life.
Natural people magnets - Everywhere you go, people are attracted to them. We find when we are in a parade with our minis you can hear the “oohs” and “ahs” all along the parade route when they are going by.
in summation, it is a delightful hobby for those who are retired, or have small children, or even for those working and busy most of the time. It does not take a great deal of land, fancy facilities, help or high overhead. It does take love, care, attention, and a sense of responsibility allied with a sense of wonder in nature.
