Palomino horse~~文摘

Probably the most famous of Palomino horses is Trigger — Roy Rogers's horse. Trigger is often called "the smartest horse in movies" and there is no doubt about it — Trigger was one smart horse.

Palomino horses, however, are not a distinct horse breed. The term "palomino" refers to color. Any breed horse can be registered as a palomino as long as it is the right (golden) color. Palomino can't be recognized as a breed because the color is an incomplete dominate gene. The color doesn't breed true. Two palomino horses can breed and the resulting foal might be chestnut. Two palominos' offspring is only palomino about half the time.
There are no conformity standards set for a palomino horse. Palomino horses are a golden color with a white or silver mane and tail. Horses that are golden in color but have a black mane and tail are called "buckskins." Horses that are gold in color but have a dark mane and tail as well as a stripe down the spine and zebra markings on the back of the forearms are called "duns."

There are American Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walking Horses, Morgans, and quarter horses that are also registered as palominos. The palomino color very rarely occurs in thoroughbreds but is possible, and it has happened. Lexington was a famous palomino race horse. Lexington was born in 1850. He stood 66 inches (a little over 15 hands)  and on April 2, 1855, he set a record at the Metaire Course in New Orleans by running 4 miles in 7 minutes, 19 3/4 seconds.

Palominos stand out in parades and show rings because of the distinctive color. Palominos are sought after for the same reason. They continue to be the most popular choice for horses in movies and on television.
