Horsewoman Megan Lewis has reached a key point in her 5,000 mile-plus journey from Beijing to London, successfully crossing China and now set to press on across Kazakhstan. She is seen here at the Korgas border post with horses Bajiu and Zorbee. But missing from her side was Chinese co-rider Peng Wenchao who, after accompanying her across China, had to return to Beijing to be at the bedside of his elderly father who is very ill. Megan is carrying with her messages of goodwill to the people of the UK, including one from the British Ambassador to China, to mark the handover of the London 2012 Olympic Games mantle.
The horses have gone to a new home in nearby Yining, where she is staying for a few days to complete preparations. One horse has already been bought for the next stage. After spending a week in Almaty she will fly home to the UK for a short break before returning on July 23 to restart the next stage of the epic journey which she intends to complete in time to be in London for the Games.
